Sex and Money
As on holiday anywhere you will meet and become friends with local and visiting gay men and women who may like to spend private time with you for your company and mutual pleasure. But beware - at many bars and clubs in Thailand it is inevitable that you will be approached by men and women offering to be friendly for a fee, sometimes they are bar guests sometimes staff - sometimes easy going sometimes pushy - sometimes you won't know about the fee till an akward moment. The men providing this service are often referred to as 'money boys' or 'rent boys'.
Bars which employ staff to be friendly for a fee are called 'off bars' in Thailand and usually provide a 'massage' service. But forget any idea you may have of getting a half decent massage. Some customers choose to have a "massage" on premises - others choose to leave with one of the staff - in this case a fee will be charged by the establishment (which will appear on the drinks bill) the customer's new friend will also expect remuneration for time spent/services provided.
There are a number of such bars on Samui but certainly not as many as in other Thai destinations such as Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket. But do remember despite the smiles and personal attention these guys and gals are professionals and the thing in their customer's pants they are most interested in is the wallet! So if you go down this path - don't be bullied and remember you are in control.
Prostitution is not legal in Thailand but it is hard to deny that it exists- everywhere.
